MIL-spec and MIL-type circular connectors are built for defence, aerospace, and industrial applications where standard commercial connectors won't hold up. The distinction matters: true MIL-SPEC parts are manufactured at QPL-listed (Qualified Products List) facilities and tested to the full requirements of the governing standard — MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-5015, MIL-DTL-26482, or MIL-C-83723. MIL-type connectors share the same form factor, shell sizes, and insert arrangements but are built to commercial tolerances without QPL qualification — a legitimate cost reduction when your programme doesn't mandate it.
The series you need depends on the coupling requirement and application. MIL-DTL-38999 Series III is the standard choice for new defence and aerospace designs — it uses a triple-start threaded coupling that locks against vibration without requiring a separate locking mechanism, across shell sizes covering most pin and socket count requirements. MIL-DTL-5015 is threaded, bulkier, and heavier, but its installed base in vehicles, ground support equipment, and legacy industrial systems keeps it in regular demand. MIL-DTL-26482 Series 1 uses bayonet coupling for fast mating; Series 2 is push-pull — both are used where frequent disconnect cycles are part of normal operation. MIL-C-83723 is a threaded design for aircraft wiring where a smaller envelope is a constraint.
Specifying correctly requires attention to coupling mechanism, shell size, insert arrangement, contact current and voltage rating, and environmental sealing. Most QPL-qualified connectors are rated IP67 or IP68, with temperature ranges from -65°C to +175°C. If QPL qualification is a contractual requirement, verify the manufacturer's facility appears on the relevant QPL before committing to a part.
TRX sources MIL-spec and MIL-type connectors from Amphenol Aerospace, ITT Cannon, TE Connectivity, and Glenair through authorised distribution. No minimum order — you can pull a handful to qualify a design before committing to production volumes. In-stock lines ship to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria. For non-stock items, we'll quote you an actual lead time.
Send us your part number or describe the application — we'll come back with availability and pricing.
